Journey to Excellence: Magic does not work but small & simple + persistence does
Some personal reflections aimed at basketball officials yet which apply for all aspects of life.
Attaining any form of excellence is not a result of doing something once and for one time.
Quoting Epictetus “if you want to do something, make a habit of it”.
This essentially means that consistent success can only come about if we have the ability to develop consistent positive daily habits.
Small, sometimes simple, steps built around a good system and the right process can lead to great results, just like planting a small seed but then being disciplined to constantly, daily taking care of it as it grows to a sturdy, fruit producing tree!
So, the secret to success and excellence is very simple and straightforward – discipline to maintain good habits.
Excellence, in any aspect of life and albeit not an easy path, should be our goal and is something I value highly. In my opinion, th
is can be arrived to if we seek to always give the 100% in whatever we are focused on and doing.
This is not something to achieve in one day.
In fact, attaining a level of excellence is not a one-day thing but will involve persistence and entails a disciplined, lengthy struggle plus a resolute determination to:
- learn;
- practice;
- make mistakes;
- relearn; and
- striving so that we become better and wiser than before and tomorrow should always be better than today.
